Reminders from the Health Room
for Students and Staff
Link to Douglas County Health Department
· If you feel sick, stay at home. Symptoms of the H1N1 flu include body aches, headache, chills, sore throat, cough or running a temperature.
· Remind students to wash their hands often with soap and water (proper technique is to scrub for 15 to 20 seconds). Of course, the same advice applies to staff members.
· Everyone should cough or sneeze into their upper sleeve, not their hands.
· When using a tissue, put the used tissue in the waste basket and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
· The Douglas County Health Department advises that people who develop flu symptoms remain at home for 7 days after onset of the illness. If symptoms persist longer than 7 days, then it is important to wait at least 24 hours after symptoms have resolved before coming back to school.
Our school custodians are providing nightly disinfection of desks, counters, drinking fountains, door handles, stair-rails, restrooms, lockers and other places that are touched often by multiple people. Alcohol-based hand cleansers will be available in all classrooms as an additional measure but not as a replacement for frequent hand-washing.
